TWD Applesauce Spice Bars


For a tasty apple treat, Karen of Something Sweet by Karen, selected Applesauce Spice Cake. I made my own applesauce with lemon peel and juice, cinnamon stick and just a bit of brown sugar. It was delicious. As suggested in the Q&A, I increased the spices and doubled the glaze (which is yummy). I did not have corn syrup, so I substituted some good Canadian syrup. I baked the cake 10 minutes longer, however, the middle still was not quite done. In my opinion, the texture is more like a cake than what I think of as a bar. My guests really enjoyed this apple dessert. Thank you Karen for your autumn selection, although it is not yet autumn where I live. I will make this recipe for my grandsons when I visit them in September. Have a good week TWD bakers. lola

  1. Mine was more cake-like, too, and I think I underbaked mine a bit. Like you, I should have popped them back in the oven for a bit longer. Despite the slight underdoneness, they had a really good flavor.
