This was a free choice week for the Heavenly Cake Bakers. Our friends returned after being away all summer, so I decided to welcome them with a coffee cake. I selected a favorite of many folks, a crumb cake. This version has an especially crunchy topping and a filling of some of the topping with apples in the middle. The baking time is lengthy, so Rose suggested using a baking strip around the pan. This is a nice basic crumb cake recipe and one that can support any variety of fruits. A good keeper recipe. Up next week is Chocolate Genoise with Peanut Butter Whipped Ganache. I hope that I am up to it with Thanksgiving on Thursday - maybe a small cake. Be sure to check out what the other bakers selected for their free choice - http://heavenlycakeplace.blogspot.com/ Take care, lola
Love this cake!
ReplyDeleteLooka lovely. I made this a long time ago but remembered we love it as well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cake, Lola. It's on my list, although I picked a different apple recipe: apple upside down cake. Picking the recipe was 50% of the work, now I have to actually make it. Hopefully today or tomorrow :o)
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely, and a good cake to share with friends! I have yet to bake this one but have made The Cake Bible version, which is always a big hit.
ReplyDeleteI'll call down to Ginger Elizabeth's and ask if I can post the recipe.
